again and again is a foundation bible passage for me...... So to wrestle with seasons, pruning and fruit has been a painful and rich privilege for me. Here's to sharing that in these days with some new friends. Your prayers and love are appreciated. Here's to much and lasting fruit in your life too. You can desire this, confidently knowing that it's God's will for you.

As ever a privilege to serve a breadth of churches tonight, in their interest and engagement with their local communities. Knowing how to plant ideas that reach across boundaries, know cultural sensitivity, biblical rootedness and some anecdotal life as well as Holy Spirit anointing is always a medium-sized ask, esp. with a group of strangers! God was so gracious..... Here's ++Justin's presidential address that speaks to human flourishing. Some timeless words from Dietrich Bonhoeffer in 'Life Together' that really excited me. "The more genuine and deeper our community becomes, the more will everything else between us recede, the more clearly and purely [...]

Though I'm not at the Willow Creek, Global Leadership Summit I've often appreciated their input. Here's some snippets and appreciated best-bits already from these sessions last week in Chicago. Here too is a three minute video clip of the best bits! from Andy Stanley "The local church is the activity of God here on earth." "When Jesus said He would build His church He meant it. It's exactly what He did and is exactly what He is doing" "Our Saviour will build His church whether we participate or not. What's your decision? Are you in?" from Henry Cloud "The opposite of bad [...]

48 hours….

I'm in a field,...ok a collection of fields, in the rain-sodden west country. At New Wine LSE. So here's five highlights that I'm taking away, alongside the gift of being with some of our church families. 1 Jay Pathak brought some great morning teaching from John's gospel. This was an echo of a conversation that a friend and I were just having prior to the bible reading. How an encounter with Jesus can eclipse the strongest apologetic arguments. Note the only thing that Jesus makes in scripture is a whip! see Acts 2. And here in John 3, Jesus offends our [...]

....in the pattern of Christian discipleship, was my assigned preaching topic yesterday! It's something I find far from resolved in my life......but I really found myself being ambushed by God in John 8:12-30. A far from easy passage, yet full of the imprint of Jesus for a life of simplicity, confidence and adventure!  Alongside the words of yesterday, here are the notes from my talk and the accompanying powerpoint slides. Between identity and transformation in the pattern of Jesus, is all our confidence and hope. That transformation comes in our trusting....and that never comes easily! Here's hoping this input, helps if only in a [...]

9 ways I hear from God!

By |2012-02-10T17:01:53+00:00February 10th, 2012|discipleship, faith, leadership, theology, writing|

One of the questions I get asked lots, is this:- How do I hear and better know God? So here's a working list of things that help me hear the the still small voice of the Spirit more clearly.   1 I hear God better after I've confessed my sin and struggles.  Confession gets rid of the static. Just as earwax is to hearing, so is confession to the soul. 2 I hear God better when I'm worshipping Him.  Worship is one way I tune into God's frequency: His nudges, words, scriptures, echoes & revelation. 3 I hear God better after I've read [...]
